Most users of Microsoft Excel or commonly known as Excel may have come across a worksheet or Excel file where part of the rows or columns don't move or freeze when scrolling down or sideways. If you have encountered this, it is assumed that you already know the outline of Frezee.
Frezee itself is a feature that is used to Frezee or freeze certain rows or columns on an Excel worksheet or worksheet so that when shifting the position of cells, those rows or columns do not move and remain visible.
This feature is often used to freeze column or row headers or headers in tables that have many parameters. This is so that we don't have to bother memorizing or scrolling back and forth just to make sure the row or column headings. With these amazing benefits, it's no wonder that Frezee Panes is available in almost all versions of Excel.
The Frezee Panes button is located on the View Menu, precisely in the Window command group. There are three types of commands to choose from, namely:
- Frezee Panes functions to maintain or freeze rows and columns to remain visible while other worksheet cells scroll.
- Frezee Top Row functions to keep the top row visible when scrolling through the worksheet
- Frezee First Column to freeze the first column to keep it visible while other worksheets scroll.
Frezee First Column. As the name implies, this command is to freeze the first column (the column that is in the far left position). How to activate it, namely:
- Make sure the column we want to freeze is in the far left position.
- Click any cell on the worksheet.
- Click Menu View -> click Frezee Panes -> select Frezee First Column.
- Then the leftmost column will still appear even though it is scrolled far to the right.
Frezee Top Row. This command will freeze the top row of the worksheet. How to activate it:
- Same as the first step of Frezee First Column, which is to make sure the row you want to freeze is at the top.
- Click any cell
- Click Menu View -> click Frezee Panes -> select Frezee Top Row
- Then the top line will still appear even though it is scrolled further down.
Frezee Panes. In general, this command is often used to freeze rows and columns simultaneously, regardless of the number of rows and columns. But actually the Freeze Panes command can be used like the two previous features, namely Frezee First Column and Frezee Top Row. Even with Frezee Panes we can freeze more than one column (not just the rightmost column) and also freeze more than one row (not just the top row). The method is quite easy, namely:
Freeze More Than One Column (Not Just Leftmost Column)
- Decide how many columns to freeze.
- Then click the cell that is the first cell after the column you want to freeze. Suppose you want to freeze columns 1 and 2, then click the cell in the first (top) row of column 3.
- Click Menu View -> click Frezee Panes -> select Frezee Panes
- Then column 1 and 2 will remain visible even though scrolled far to the right.
Freeze More Than One Row (Not Just Top Rows)
- Specify how many rows to freeze.
- Then click the cell that is the first cell after the row you want to freeze. Suppose you want to freeze rows 1 and 2, then click the first (leftmost) row of row 3 cells.
- Click Menu View -> click Frezee Panes -> select Frezee Panes
- Then line 1 and 2 will remain visible even though scrolled far to the right.
Freeze Rows and Columns Simultaneously
First, we must understand the 3 types of areas that are frozen: (1) Absolute Frezee, namely the range bounded by the selected cell and the top left position. This range will remain displayed when shifted down or shifted sideways. (2) Vertical Frezee, namely the range bounded by the upper selected cell. The range will still appear when you move it down but disappear when you move it sideways. (3) Horizontal Frezee is the range bounded by the selected cell on the left. This range will remain visible when moved sideways but disappear when sliding down.
- Specify how many rows and columns to freeze.
- Then click the cell that is the first cell after the row and column you want to freeze. Suppose you freeze rows 1 & 2 and columns 1 & 2, then click the cells of the 3rd row and 3rd column
- Click Menu View -> click Frezee Panes -> select Frezee Panes
- Then columns 1 & 2 will remain visible even if scrolled far to the right
- Meanwhile, rows 1 and 2 will remain visible even though you scroll further down
